Medical practitioners under the banner of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, have asked the Federal Government to announce a state of emergency on health with the aim of addressing the sector’s problems and making it more attractive to professionals.
The NMA, Ekiti State Branch had also called for the allotment of at least 15% of the national budget to the health sector as stipulated in the Abuja Declaration, stating that such step will show the commitment of the government to the growth of the health sector.
These demands were contained in the communique, and was read at the end of the 26th Annual General Meeting of NMA Ekiti, in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, August 13.
In the communique signed by Dr. Babtunde Rosiji, the NMA State Chairman, and Secretary, Dr. Moses Dada, the physicians charged President Bola Tinubu to take critical decisions to help ‘jumpstart the ailing health sector’.
The AGM had also appealed to the Federal Government to immediately address the rising cost of medicine and medical consumables to stop the cost of health services from skyrocketing to the point of driving patients away from our hospitals.
