Libya Death Toll Hits 55 -According to Medical Reports

The casualty from the clashes in Tripoli, Libya’s capital over the duration of Monday and Tuesday has reached 55, with about 146 persons sustaining wounds, according to emergency services.

City elders had previously announced on Tuesday evening that a deal had been brokered, to end Tripoli’s deadliest violence seen in years, with a Special Deterrence Force handing 444 Brigade commander, Mahmoud Hamza, over to a third faction: the Stability Support Apparatus.

Hamza had previously, been seized by the Special Deterrence Force. Note that this force controls Mitiga airport.

Airlines that had on Tuesday ceased using Mitiga airport, because of the intensity of the conflict there had resumed flights on Wednesday, August 16.

As part of the deal brokered by the elders, police and other security personnel that kept neutral in the clashes had moved into areas where the conflict took place.

However, this dispute is still unresolved and a source in 444 Brigade had added that it might restart military operations if Hamza was not returned to his own base.

Major warfare in the country has been halted since a 2020 truce between the main eastern and western factions , but rival sides still hold most of the territory and a permanent solution to the conflict that has kept on since 2011 looks bleak.
