Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has taken to social media to share a cryptic message following the Senate’s failure to confirm his nomination as a minister. On the platform once known as Twitter, he posted lines from Bob Marley’s ‘Who The Cap Fit’.

In his post, El-Rufai expressed admiration for Bob Marley and his music, which resonates with his love for reggae. The lyrics he shared underline the unpredictability of trust and the potential for betrayal, invoking the idea that sometimes those closest to you might not be as they seem.

El-Rufai had been one of the 48 ministerial nominees forwarded by President Bola Tinubu to the Senate for approval. While the Senate confirmed 45 nominees, including many ex-governors, El-Rufai’s confirmation was held back, alongside two others, due to concerns about “security clearance”.

During the screening process on August 1, 2023, Senator Karimi Sunday of Kogi West Senatorial District brought up a petition against El-Rufai, raising issues concerning national security, unity, and cohesion. Despite commendation for El-Rufai’s past performance as both Kaduna governor and Federal Capital Territory minister, the petition prompted a call for its consideration during the screening.

It’s worth noting that Senate President Godswill Akpabio intervened, preventing El-Rufai from addressing the petition. Following the Senate’s decision, reports emerged of El-Rufai’s presence at the Villa, and he reportedly withdrew his interest in becoming a minister under the Tinubu administration.

This turn of events has sparked speculation about El-Rufai’s political future. Observers are left to ponder whether other opportunities might be in store for him, potentially even higher roles in the political landscape.
