Aston Villa claimed their first victory of the season in impressive fashion, routing Everton 4-0 on Sunday to bounce back from their previous week’s heavy defeat to Newcastle.

Aiming to build on their strong finish from last season, Villa suffered a shocking 5-1 loss to Newcastle, tarnishing the start of their Premier League campaign. However, under Unai Emery’s guidance, Villa redeemed themselves at Villa Park, securing an emphatic win against a lackluster Everton side.

The goals came from different sources as John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, and Jhon Duran found the back of the net for Villa. This victory marked a significant turnaround for Emery’s team, who are looking to make a mark in Europe for the first time in over a decade by qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

Emery expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Today we were very, very angry to get our performance at home and to forget last week’s match.” He emphasized the need for improvement, recognizing both the positives and areas for growth in the team’s performance.

In contrast, Everton, narrowly escaping relegation in the previous season, suffered another setback. Sean Dyche’s squad endured a 1-0 defeat to Fulham in their previous match, making it two losses in a row without a single goal scored.

Dyche didn’t mince words about his team’s performance, admitting, “Villa had more edge. They were far better than us. That was not good enough.” Everton faced additional setbacks with injuries to key players Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi.

The game saw Villa’s dominance unfold. Goals from McGinn, Luiz (from the penalty spot), Bailey, and Duran sealed Everton’s fate. The match also witnessed unfortunate injuries to Calvert-Lewin and Iwobi, further hampering Everton’s efforts.

Despite the brilliance of Villa’s performance, there was a bittersweet moment as Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho sustained a late injury.

In the Premier League standings, Aston Villa currently holds the ninth position with three points, while Everton languishes at the bottom without any points. Brighton Hove Albion leads the table with six points, followed closely by Manchester City. While it’s still early to determine title contenders, fans can stay informed by following Federal Character News for comprehensive coverage of the EPL season.
