The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has rejected a mass demolition approval by the new FCT Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, in FCT Abuja.

The latest media reports have claimed that there are plans to knock down 6,000 houses (buildings) across 30 Abuja settlements.

The FCTA spokesperson, Anthony Ogunleye, who had reacted to the claims in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 23 had observed that the stories were completely false and had no basis in reality.

Ogunleye had said
“To clear all doubts, the Minister had not in any of his declaration, listed the areas or the number of illegal houses to be knocked down. He had rather, emphasised that the illegal settlements and structures would be toppled for the greater good of the public.”

“It is crucial to remember that the development and maintenance of the Federal Capital Territory is conducted by meticulously crafted policies and regulations, with a focus on sustainable urban growth and the maintenance of residents’ rights. Any decisions made in the above regard is rooted in extensive assessments, community consultations, and strict adherence to the rule of law.”

Ogunleye had additionally, assured all the residents of the minister’s commitment to enhance the quality of life in FCT.
