Atiku Defies PEPT Ruling, Declares War on Electoral Injustice: Supreme Court Battle Looms Large

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has refused to accept the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT), which upheld Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 poll. As we walked away from the appeal court and towards the Supreme Court, Atiku remained undeterred, vowing to contest the ruling.

During a press briefing on Thursday, Atiku expressed his disappointment with the tribunal’s decision, asserting that it lacked substantial justice. He firmly stated, “I refuse to accept the judgment because I believe that it is bereft of substantial justice.” However, he maintained his faith in the judiciary, insisting that he would exercise his constitutionally guaranteed right of appeal to the Supreme Court.

Atiku passionately emphasized the importance of fair and untainted elections, asserting that they should accurately reflect the will of the voters. He stated, “I believe that such is the only way through which our democracy can have a manifest expression of its true meaning.”

His party, the PDP, had also rejected the tribunal’s verdict and announced plans to consult its legal team for the next steps. Atiku, who came second in the election, remains steadfast in his claim that he won the election despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring Tinubu as the victor.

As this contentious battle proceeds to the Supreme Court, Nigerians are urged to stay updated on the latest developments by following Federal Character News, even from the comfort of their homes. The outcome of this legal showdown promises to be a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s political landscape.
