A British Royal Navy warship, the HMS Trent, has made an appearance in Lagos State, Nigeria.
The warship is making its second trip to Nigeria, as part of the West Africa regional mission to help British allies and their partners, fight piracy, trafficking and other unlawful activities.
The British High Commission, had through its Senior Press and Public Affairs Officer, Ms. Ndidiamaka Eze, remarked that the visit would assist in administering capacity training and supporting maritime security in the region.
According to Ms. Eze, the warship was in Nigeria to merely assist the West African countries to evolve in their capabilities to tackle unlawful crimes.
Jonny Bacter, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Lagos State had said that this deployment would show how Britain was stepping up to the world stage, in helping to fight the apportioned international security challenges.

“Nigeria is an esteemed and valued defence partner for the United Kingdom in West Africa. Our two nations face several shared threats and we are eager to work with Nigeria to fight these threats and to help enhance maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.”
