Ian Wilmut, the renowned British scientist whose groundbreaking research played a pivotal role in the creation of the iconic cloned animal, Dolly the Sheep, has passed away at the age of 79, as announced by the Roslin Institute of Edinburgh on Monday.
In a historic collaboration with Keith Campbell from the Scottish institute for Animal Sciences Research, Wilmut made global headlines and ignited intense ethical discussions in 1996 by successfully cloning Dolly, marking the first time a mammal had been cloned from an adult cell.
