Ondo’s Impeachment Drama Takes a Hilarious Turn: Ilaje Residents March with Leaves to ‘Save Lucky’

The ongoing theatrical saga in Ondo state continues to entertain, with the Deputy Governor’s impeachment process now in the spotlight. Residents of Ilaje communities in Ilaje Local Government Area decided to add some humor to the situation. They marched to the state capital, Akure, with leaves in hand, in support of their embattled deputy governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Amid chants and catchy solidarity songs, protesters displayed clever placards with messages like ‘Justice for Lucky, Lucky is innocent,’ ‘Stop alleging him wrongly, Ilaje Nation stands with Aiyedatiwa,’ ‘Aketi, Lucky is not your enemy,’ and ‘Let Lucky finish his term.’ Some even suspect this impeachment is a plot to keep Aiyedatiwa out of the 2024 governorship race.

One of the protest leaders, Mr. Ola Juda, insisted that the Ilaje people, along with sympathizers from other regions, wouldn’t stand for this impeachment. They accused the state House of Assembly of threatening the peace of Ondo State, pointing out that Ilaje had been without electricity for days, and no legislative action was taken to address it.

Juda humorously remarked, “For the past decades, an Ilaje man had never been a deputy governor, but for the first time, we have a deputy governor, and yet the power that be has vowed that he will not finish his tenure.”

While the House members stayed behind closed doors, the police commander urged the protesters to keep the peace.

This Ondo state saga is a classic example of “when your plans backfire.” It all started when Akeredolu fell ill, and some of his cabinet members switched sides, trying to instigate the Deputy Governor against him. Now, the chickens have come home to roost, and it’s a comedy of errors. Who will save Lucky now?
