The Senate House had on Tuesday, October 31, approved the nomination of Zak Adedeji as the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.

Appearing at the upper chamber for his screening on Tuesday, Adedeji had disclosed his plans to enhance the nation’s revenue, referring to the scarcity of information in the oil and gas sector.

He had vowed that most of the leakages would be stopped.

According to him, the main issue in the country was that of correct data, adding that the growing data upon which decisions will be concluded upon was fundamental.

Adedeji had also remarked that it will enable adequate info on the particular number of crude vessels brought into the county and the attendant tax.

The data would be used to pinpoint those in affluence who discharge insufficient tax.

The FIRS boss also promised to unify the identification system in Nigeria and promote the country’s data mining capacity.

Adedeji’s confirmation is coming after over a month of President Bola Tinubu appointing him, his Special Adviser on Revenue, as the newest FIRS Chairman.

Prior to the appointment, Tinubu had ordered the erstwhile FIRS Chairman Muhammad Nami to embark on a three months pre-retirement leave.
