National Embarrassment: Coach’s Unpaid Dues Hold Super Eagles Hostage, NFF’s Inability to Act Raises Eyebrows

In the ongoing saga of Coach Peseiro’s performance with the Super Eagles, it seems like a laughable yet troubling situation. Despite widespread calls for his sacking due to the team’s dismal showings, Nigeria’s stuck in a tight spot. Nse Essien, a Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board member, spilled the beans that they can’t afford to pay off Peseiro if they let him go. The team’s performance? Disgraceful. The coach’s help in improving it? Questionable.

The recent matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe were far from smooth sailing. The Super Eagles found themselves trailing against teams ranked way below them before scraping together some late-game heroics.

Essien acknowledged the uproar demanding Peseiro’s removal but blamed monetary limitations for their hands being tied. It’s a funny yet disheartening situation – everyone’s shouting “Sack the coach!” but the NFF’s budget says otherwise.

Apparently, Coach Peseiro’s $70,000 per month salary hasn’t been coming through lately. And the NFF’s hands are tied; they can’t just let him go without paying up. The whole thing’s a bit of a comedy. Imagine a coach not getting paid while the team’s struggling and the sports ministry seems to be comfortably ignoring the issue. Sadly, it’s our reality.

“Who pays for compensation that is the situation we find ourselves in not a dime has been paid to this coach who earns about $70,000 every month.

“We have to respect Jose Peseiro’s contract. If we had the money to give to him (pay him off) we are going to relieve him. We are not happy.

In the end, it’s a tale of a coach with a hefty paycheck, a team in disarray, and a federation in a financial pinch. Funny, huh? Well, welcome to Nigeria!
