The immediate ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, is still behind bars in in Kuje Prison, in Abuja, seven days after he was granted bail.
The former CBN chief has yet to perfect the bail conditions enforced on him by High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
Recall that Justice Hamza Muazu had on November 22 granted Emefiele bail in the sum of 300 million Naira.
Justice Muazu had in a ruling, ordered that Emefiele had to produce two sureties, of whom had to have landed properties in the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory.
Emefiele had been at Kuje Prison on remand when the bail conditions were granted him.
The judge had directed that Emefiele would remain in prison custody until he completely met all the bail conditions.
However at the start of trial on Tuesday, November 28, Emefiele was brought to court in a van by thoroughly armed security personnel stationed at Kuje Prison.
The court premises was heavily secured by armed security agents.
Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, the Counsel to the Economic Financial Crimes Commission –EFCC, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, –SAN, told our news reporter that the ex-CBN chief had not completed his bail conditions, therefore, he’s still in prison on remand.
Emefiele’s lawyer, Mathew Burkaa SAN, while admitting that his client was still in the prison, had informed journalists that his team was making efforts to fulfil the bail conditions and that the knotty issue is getting two sureties with landed properties in the Maitama District of FCT, Abuja.
However, immediately after Tuesday’s proceedings, Emefiele was brought back to jail.
