A 70-year-old lady has given birth to twins after an IVF treatment, a hospital in Uganda revealed.

Safina Namukwaya had birthed a boy and a girl via caesarean at a fertility centre in Kampala, the capital city.

Ms Namukwaya, had informed the local media that her being able to give birth was purely miraculous.

The hospital had waxed lyrical about her, saying that it had been more than a medical success.

“It’s about the strength and pliability of the human spirit.”

The Hospital: the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Center (WHI&FC) had posted the joyous news on its official Facebook page.

The post had also said that she had delivered the babies on Wednesday just after midday.

Ms Namukwaya had narrated that she suffered greatly for this particular pregnancy.

This was mainly because her partner ran away, abandoning her when he realised that she was going to have twins.

Ms Namukwaya has been fortunate in childbearing as in 2020, she gave birth to her first child, a baby girl. This was after she had endured years of mockery for being childless.

Namukwaya had not disclosed whether she used a donor egg when this report was made.

An adult woman usually goes through menopause between the ages of 45 and 55. This is usually the age when fertility drops.

But recent pursuits in medicine have made it possible for some to give birth at their age if so desired.

In-vitro fertilisation –IVF, is one of the several techniques in advanced medicine. In the process, a laboratory fertilizes an egg separated from the woman’s ovaries with sperm.

Subsequently, they insert the fertilized egg, now an embryo, into a woman’s womb for maturation and development.
