Israel announced on Sunday that it targeted weapons launch sites and facilities belonging to Hezbollah in Lebanon in response to cross-border incidents, while the Iran-backed group claimed to have attacked Israeli army targets.

The exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah has been ongoing nearly daily since the onset of the Gaza war over two months ago, marking the most intense hostilities since the 2006 conflict.

The violence, mostly confined to the border region, has resulted in over 130 casualties in Lebanon, including 94 Hezbollah fighters and 17 civilians. In Israel, eight soldiers and four civilians have lost their lives in the hostilities.

Israel’s military indicated that it retaliated to Hezbollah attacks using artillery, tank fire, and airstrikes on launch sites, an observation post belonging to the Lebanese group, and what Israel referred to as a “terrorist cell.” In response, Hezbollah stated that it targeted various Israeli military locations along the border, including what it claimed to be a barracks, a command center, and an army crane installing surveillance equipment.

Despite the activation of rocket sirens in northern Israel, there were no reported casualties resulting from the attacks.
