The Senate just greenlit the spending plan for next year, and guess what? They decided to spend a bit more than originally planned!

  • Here’s the scoop:
  • So, what does this all mean?

Here’s the scoop:

Bigger Budget by a Bunch: Instead of the N27.5 trillion President Tinubu proposed, the Senate added a cool N1.2 trillion, bringing the total budget to a whopping N28.7 trillion. Wowzers!

What Did They Spend It On? Well, they gave themselves more for everything – everyday stuff like salaries and running the government (called Recurrent Expenditure), and also building roads, schools, and other cool things (Capital Expenditure).

Borrowing More? Yep: To cover the extra spending, they’re planning to borrow even more money, about N7.83 trillion. But hey, at least the deficit is smaller than last year’s, right?

So, what does this all mean?

Some people are cheering, a bigger budget means more money for things like healthcare and education. But others are worried about all the borrowing. Will we be paying for this forever?

Only time will tell how this big spending spree plays out. But one thing’s for sure – 2024 in Nigeria is gonna be interesting!
