In a surprising twist echoing this year’s theme, “no gree for anybody,” Governor Soludo firmly stands by it. The traditional ruler of Neni community, Igwe Damian Ezeani, suspended for bestowing a chieftaincy title on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has now issued a public apology to the Anambra State government and Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The Anambra State government, acting through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, suspended Ezeani for not adhering to the state’s Code of Conduct for traditional rulers during the conferment of chieftaincy titles.

Ezeani, through a four-minute video on social media, expressed his regret and sought to retract the titles bestowed upon the recipients. He extended an “unreserved and profound” apology for not securing the necessary clearance before granting the chieftaincy titles.

As the chairman of the Anambra Central Traditional Rulers Forum, Ezeani apologized on behalf of the entire Neni community, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive relationship with the state government. He cited his upbringing, influenced by the first generation of Christians, where apologizing for any offense was ingrained.

Efforts to obtain the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, Tony Collins Nwabuwanne’s reaction were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Christian Aburime, Soludo’s Press Secretary, acknowledged the apology, noting that the Commissioner for LGA, through whom the suspension was issued, would respond soon.

In the intricate dance of power dynamics, it’s a reminder for everyone to operate within the bounds of their authority.
