Five passengers have been reported dead, leaving eight others injured in an accident that occurred on Monday, around 1:58pm near the Fidiwo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The gruesome crash involved a Mazda bus with the registration number: EKY582 YE and another Mercedes Benz truck with no identifiable plate number.

The truck has purportedly suffered a tyre burst on motion after which it lost control and crashed into the Mazda bus, according to a statement from the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe.

The statement partly read,

“A total of 15 persons were involved (eight adult males and seven adult females). Eight persons were injured from the crash (five adult males and three adult females) while five persons were recorded dead (four adult males and one adult female).

“The surmised cause of the fatal crash were tyre bust, over-speeding –which led to the loss of control on the part of the truck– and crashing with the bus while on motion.

The Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector, CC Anthony Uga, has expressed regrets over the unfortunate incident, urging motorists to pay rapt attention to their tyres and avoid the use of worn- out or expired tyres”.
