What happened?

Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria, was rocked by a massive explosion on Tuesday evening. The blast occurred in the Bodija area, sending shockwaves through the city and causing widespread fear and confusion.

What caused the explosion?

After hours of anxious waiting, Governor Seyi Makinde finally delivered some answers on Wednesday. According to preliminary investigations by security agencies, the explosion was caused by explosive devices stored by illegal miners. This revelation has sparked outrage and questions about how such dangerous materials could end up in a residential area.

What was the impact of the explosion?

The blast was devastating. At least two people were killed and 77 injured, many of whom were treated and released from hospitals. The explosion also caused significant damage to buildings, including the Governor’s Office, the Oyo State House of Assembly, and the residence of a former Attorney General.

What is being done?

Governor Makinde has assured the public that a full investigation is underway and that anyone found responsible will be brought to justice. He has also pledged to support the victims of the explosion, both the injured and those whose homes were damaged.

What can we do?

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal mining and the importance of responsible storage of hazardous materials. We must all be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation continues.

Stay safe, Ibadan!
