Akwa Ibom Election: Police Deploy 2,000 Officers for Election Rerun

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has deployed about 2,000 of its personnel to Ikono, Ini and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas of the State in anticipation for the federal constituency election on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

This news update was contained in a statement issued to newsmen in Uyo on Friday by Odiko Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO.

The statement announced that there will be restriction of movement from 7 am to 2 pm on the said day in the affected local government areas, adding that only INEC staff, health workers and security agents would be the only exempted personnel.

Akwa Ibom Election: Police Deploy 2,000 Officers for Election Rerun

The command had warned mischief makers to avoid the election venue or face the consequences of their actions. Additionally, residents of the areas were urged to come out and exercise their franchise without any fear of molestation or intimidation.

The statement read in part:
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has deployed 2000 Officers and Men of the Command and Sister Security Agencies to 54 Polling units and 15 Wards in the 3 Local Government Areas affected by the re-run election in Akwa Ibom State to supply adequate and top notch security before, during and after the re-run election holding on Saturday, 3rd of February, 2024.
