A drone attack on a base housing U.S. troops in eastern Syria had killed six allied Kurdish fighters. The Sunday night attack is the first significant attack in Syria or Iraq since the United Stares instituted retaliatory strikes  over the weekend against Iran-allied militias that have been picking out its forces in the region.

The U.S.-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces had said on Monday that the attack hit a training ground at al-Omar base in Syria’s eastern province of Deir el-Zour and blamed the“Syrian regime-supported mercenaries” of launching the attack. No casualties were announced among U.S. troops.

An umbrella group of Iran-supported Iraqi militias, labelled the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, had released a video claiming responsibility for the assault and showing them launching a drone from an undisclosed location.

Towards the end of January, a drone attack by the same insurrectionists had killed 3 U.S. soldiers and wounded dozens more at a Jordan desert base.
The U.S. military launched several retaliatory strikes singling out Iran-backed militant groups in western Iraq and eastern Syria and also struck the Houthis in Yemen.

The umbrella group has launched these drone attacks against the U.S. military bases and troops in Iraq and Syria, hoping and campaigning for the withdrawal of American soldiers from both countries.

Meanwhile,
The Britain-based opposition war monitor, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, has meanwhile said that at least seven SDF fighters were killed in the attack on Sunday, leaving 18 others wounded, and some in critical condition.
It had not specified on whether any U.S. military personnel were among the casualties.

The SDF had said that it has the right to respond to the attack.
