The members of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Anambra State are presentlg at the state capital in Awka, protesting the economic hardship in the country.
The Awka city protest was led by its chairman, Humphrey Nwafor.

Aggrieved protesters were seen assembled at the Aroma Roundabout in Awka on Tuesday, marching towards the Government House gate in the state capital.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, led by its chairman, Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji had joined the protest, along with its members.

Meanwhile, the state NLC chairman, Nwafor, had given a short address, saying that the economic hardship in the country had become intolerable for workers and other citizens.

He had afterwards called on the Federal Government to review workers’ salaries to a minimum of N1.2 million, stressing that it is one of the solutions that can help workers out of the current situation in the country.

He had also appealed to the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to resume the payment of the 12,000 Naira wage award which the state has suspended paying for some months now.

Security operatives, including the police personnel, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other critical agencies were on the ground offering protection for the protesters to bar hoodlums from hijacking the rally.

Subsequently, the NLC stormed the streets of Lagos to protest too. They were joined by Femi Falana, human rights lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Reports have asserted that Falana had joined the protest inside the Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
Demonstrators had taken to the streets of Lagos State to air their grievances and annoyances over the economic hardship in the country, as well as to emphasise that the living conditions were harsh and brutal.

Additionally, residents were protesting the government’s purported failure to implement agreements reached between both parties on October 2, 2022 after the fuel subsidy removal.

This is a developing news story. More details to come later.
