Today, a profound hush fell over Isiokpo, Rivers State, as hundreds gathered to say goodbye to a beloved son – Herbert Wigwe, the former CEO of Access Bank. This wasn’t just any funeral; it was a testament to a life that touched countless others.

Wigwe wasn’t just a successful banker; he was a pillar of the community. The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lion of Judah parish, overflowed with mourners – friends, colleagues, and even international well-wishers. The mood was heavy, but laced with an undercurrent of immense respect.

His dedication went beyond the boardroom. Tributes poured in, highlighting Wigwe’s unwavering commitment to social causes. He wasn’t just building businesses, he was building better lives for countless Nigerians.

A Titan Laid to Rest: Herbert Wigwe Remembered

The 11 AM service marked the official farewell. After the ceremony, only family and close friends remained for a private interment.

The who’s who of Nigeria were present to pay their respects: Senate President Akpabio, business magnate Dangote, former Emir Sanusi, and several Governors. The somber scene underscored the magnitude of the loss.

The tragedy that claimed Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and son Chizi, is still fresh. The helicopter crash in California took not just a family, but a beacon of hope for many.

Today, as Nigeria lays a legend to rest, one thing is clear: Herbert Wigwe’s legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come. May they all rest in peace.
