The List of Countries Affected by Internet Outage and its Intensity

Following reported failures in several subsea cables, the West and Central African regions have been reported to be experiencing a widespread internet blackout.

Millions of users are anticipated and are currently affected by this outage, which is projected to delay for several weeks. This disruption will significantly impact businesses and disrupt the day-to-dat lives of citizens in the affected areas.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the rupture of several major undersea cables has led to internet connectivity disruptions in Nigeria and in many West African nations.

The List of Countries Affected by Internet Outage and its Intensity

MTN Group and sources within MainOne revealed this information on Wednesday, March 13. The outage is presently affecting banks and subscribers of the various network carriers in Nigeria, leading to internet downtime.

This unplanned cable disruptions, have seen many Nigerians stranded in restaurants and malls. Banks battled with network downtimes triggered by the cable cuts, worsening the situation for all affected.

According to  a list released by Netblocks, and posted by Business Day, the severity levels of affected countries ranges were:

  1. Benin: High
  2. Burkina Faso: High
  3. Cameroon: Medium
  4. Gabon: Medium
  5. Ghana: High
  6. Ivory Coast: Severe
  7. Lesotho: Low
  8. Liberia: High
  9. Namibia: Medium
  10. Niger: Medium
  11. Nigeria: Low
  12. South Africa: Low
  13. Togo: Medium
