According to Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Ahmed Gulak, a former adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, was shot and killed on his way to Owerri Airport in Imo State on Sunday.
A police statement issued on Sunday night stated that the men who committed the heinous act were members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network. It said further that Gulak’s murderers were traced to their whereabouts in the city of Imo on Sunday, and they were shot and killed in a gun battle with the police.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has since alienated itself from the allegation through its Spokesperson, Emma Powerful. He reiterated that IPOB had nothing to do with the death of Ahmed Gulak.
Powerful described the death as a “professional assassination.”
He said, “we clearly state that IPOB is not aware of this murder. We have nothing to do with Gulak, and we did not kill him.
“This is a ploy by evil men to defend their long-awaited plan to convene another special military operation in the eastern region to destroy more innocent residents of Biafra.
“IPOB is not a terrorist organization and will not shed blood.”
A popular Twitter influencer, Mazi Gburugburu, went on to tweet that, “certain intelligence reports indicate that Herdsmen shot Gulak but are making it seem like ESN/IPOB killing. It is still unclear but we are watching closely for investigations to reveal further…..”
At face value, it seems like propagandists are trying to insight a war between the Igbo community and Benue and also trying to make sure the government imposes a state of emergency in Benue and in the East.
For all intents and purposes, this despicable behavior may pitch Nigerians, especially those in the north, against the Igbos in the southeast.
We must face the enemies of the people and eradicate their evil scheme. Now is definitely not the time to be politically correct. They should not be allowed to undermine the legitimacy of the current governments at all levels.
