Nigeria is currently grappling with a significant insecurity challenge, especially in the Northern region, where incidents of killings and kidnappings have become alarmingly frequent.

The governor of Zamfara State, in response to the pervasive threat of violence, has taken decisive action by imposing strict restrictions on movement along the state’s borders with Katsina and Sokoto states. This measure, enforced from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., aims to mitigate the rampant incidences of killings and kidnappings plaguing the region.

Insecurity: Zamfara imposed movement restriction along border

Manir Haidara, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed this directive during a press briefing in Gusau on Tuesday. The decision was made during a State Security Council Meeting convened to address the escalating security challenges.

The primary objective of this directive is to combat the relentless kidnapping of travelers along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua highway, a hotspot for criminal activities perpetrated by bandits. By implementing these measures, the state government seeks to proactively address the scourge of banditry and enhance the safety of residents and travelers alike.

All motorists and travelers are mandated to adhere to the government’s directive, with security agencies tasked with enforcing strict compliance at the designated borders. This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of its citizens and restoring peace and security to the region.
