The gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Muri Ajaka, strongly denounced the recent spate of violence in several communities within the Omala Local Government Area of the state. In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, Ajaka urged President Bola Tinubu to address the deteriorating security situation in the state by declaring a state of emergency to halt the “incessant and senseless killings.”

Expressing his dismay, Ajaka stated, “I unequivocally condemn the repeated acts of violence resulting in the loss of innocent lives in Bagana, Otutubatu, Iyade, Agbenema, Agojeju-Odo, and other affected communities in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.”

Emphasizing the sanctity of every citizen’s life, Ajaka stressed that it is the duty of the state government to safeguard the populace against both internal and external threats. He underscored the urgent need for the state government to fulfill its primary obligation of ensuring the security of Kogi State.

Calling upon the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crisis, Ajaka asserted, “Given the failure of the state government to address these issues, I implore President Tinubu to take decisive action to prevent the escalation of insecurity in any part of the country, including Kogi State.”

To this end, Ajaka urged President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Kogi State, citing the brutal killing of over 35 individuals and the apparent inaction of the state government in response to the crisis.

Furthermore, Ajaka appealed to the Inspector General of Police, the service chiefs, and the National Security Adviser to promptly intervene and conduct a thorough investigation into the root causes of the ongoing conflict.

In addition, Ajaka called for humanitarian aid to be provided to those displaced by the violence.
