Sunshine and Thunderstorms Forecast Across Nigeria This Week

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather forecast for Thursday through Saturday, predicting a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms across the country. Here’s a detailed breakdown by region:

Thursday:

North: Sunny skies with a few patches of clouds. Expect afternoon and evening thunderstorms in parts of Taraba state.

North Central: Cloudy skies with occasional sunshine. Thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening over parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kwara, Kogi, and Benue states.
South: Predominantly cloudy with a chance of morning thunderstorms in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. Thunderstorms are expected across the entire southern region later in the day.

Friday:

North: Sunny skies with a few clouds in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms possible later in the day over parts of Taraba state.

North Central: Cloudy with sunny spells in the morning. Thunderstorms are anticipated in the afternoon and evening over parts of Kwara, Benue, Kogi, and the FCT.

South: Mainly cloudy with a chance of morning thunderstorms in parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states. Isolated thunderstorms are predicted later in the day over Ondo, Enugu, Imo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Cross River states.

Saturday:

North: Sunny skies with a few clouds. Expect afternoon and evening thunderstorms over parts of Taraba state.

North Central: Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine. Isolated thunderstorms are possible later in the day over parts of the FCT, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kwara states.

South: Cloudy with intervals of sunshine. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in the morning over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are forecast over most parts of the southern region.

Important Precautions:

Strong winds may precede thunderstorms in areas where they are likely to occur. The public is advised to take necessary precautions.
Airline operators are advised to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
