By now, we all know that a good old white shirt is a fashion must-have in any individual’s wardrobe. A very versatile clothing, this shirt has a lot of uses and comes in very handy in all seasons of the year. In essence, you literally cannot go wrong with having at least one of this in your wardrobe.
The problem, however, lies in its styling. A white shirt can be manipulated into looking as classy, preppy or whatever vibe you’re going for, but, only if you know what you’re doing.
I don’t know about you, but l’ve grown bored of the traditional tuck-into-bottoms and tie-a-knot-to-the-front styles that have been in vogue since maybe forever.
If you’re looking to switch up the way you wear your classic white shirt, this is the article for you.
Now, I was inspired by my favourite fashion models to write this article because I’ve loved how they put their own unique spin to wearing the white button-down shirt in the photographs I’ve seen of them. Below are a few of the styles I’m currently feeling:
The White Shirt + Nipped Waist Blazer:
If you want something that screams authority, this is your best bet. Put on a white shirt under a nipped (or any) blazer of your choice. The blazer colour doesn’t matter, just go for what you’re comfortable with and see yourself immediately transform from basic to sophisticated in the blink of an eye.
The important factor to keep in mind is for the shirt to not be too baggy for your frame. Pair this with fitted pants and you could just be another model strutting her stuff on the streets of New York.
The White Shirt + Fitted Tank Top:
There are a number of ways to style this look. If you’re looking to show off your legs, opt for an above-the-knee denim skirt and a tank top with a white shirt on top. If you want a chilled vibe instead, opt for denim trousers, paired with a fitted tank top and a white shirt on top. The choice for a footwear is totally up to you.
The White Shirt + Long-sleeved Turtle Neck:
Nothing screams “I know my stuff!” better than layering your white shirt impressively. I may be biased when I say that I have never seen this combo go wrong on anyone, seriously.
The White Shirt + Knitted Top
This style has been popping up on my Instagram feed a lot more times than I can count lately. Fashion influencers on the gram seem to favour this style a lot more than the other trends I’ve mentioned in this article.
Just like in the image above, choose your favourite knitwear and don it over your white button down. Any pair of bottoms can go with this style, provided you have enough ‘steeze’ (confidence) to carry it.
The white shirt under a sweater or vest is my favourite so far. I like the general appearance and how chic is makes one look.
