Nigeria is taking a big step towards modernizing its military by acquiring 24 fighter jets from Leonardo, an Italian defense company. This exciting news was announced by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force.

These new jets will be a valuable asset in Nigeria’s fight against various security threats. The country faces challenges from Boko Haram militants and the Islamic State in the northeastern region. Additionally, kidnapping and banditry are widespread issues across the nation.

The new aircraft, known as the M-346, will arrive in Nigeria in four separate deliveries, with six jets coming at a time. The first batch is expected to arrive before the end of 2024! This swift delivery schedule highlights Nigeria’s commitment to improving its airpower.

The agreement with Leonardo goes beyond just the jets themselves. The Italian company will also provide at least 25 years of maintenance support, ensuring the new fighter jets stay operational for a long time. This comprehensive package will give the Nigerian Air Force the tools and resources it needs to effectively protect the country.

Overall, this acquisition represents a significant upgrade for Nigeria’s air force. The M-346 jets will enhance the country’s ability to address security threats and promote peace and stability within its borders.
