Wigwe University, founded by the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, is set to commence operations and welcome its first cohort of students in August 2024. The institution is located in Isiokpo, within the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Remarkable leadership
Before the passing on of the late Herbert Wigwe, Prof. Miles Davis from the United States was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Wigwe University. Prof. Davis holds a Doctorate in Human and Organizational Sciences from The George Washington University, USA.

In a message found on the university’s website, Wigwe expressed his vision: “I cannot change the world overnight. But if I can empower even one youth today, tomorrow, they could join me in empowering others. With time, we could change the world.”
But at what price?
The university is projected to be the most expensive in Africa, with tuition fees approaching 12 million naira, popularising the saying, “better soup na money kill am!”
The College of Arts offers the most affordable program at ₦9,600,000. Students enrolled in the College of Engineering, College of Management and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Computing will each pay a total fee of ₦11,998,800. These fees cover tuition, books, laboratory supplies and consumables, personal protective equipment, project lab resources, e-learning resources, and health insurance.
