Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson will miss the final two games of the season, including the FA Cup final, due to a small fracture in his eye socket, the club announced on Thursday. The injury occurred during City’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday when Ederson collided with defender Cristian Romero in the second half.
Following the collision, Ederson required extensive treatment on the pitch and appeared disoriented before manager Pep Guardiola substituted him for Stefan Ortega. Subsequent scans revealed a small fracture to Ederson’s right eye socket, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
“The injury will prevent Ederson from playing any further part in the remaining games of the 2023/24 season,” Manchester City said in a statement.
League leaders City are set to host West Ham United on Sunday, where a win will secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title. They will then face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on May 25th.
Ederson’s absence is a significant blow to City as they aim to conclude the season on a high, with Ortega expected to step in for the crucial upcoming fixtures.
