The match between Denmark and Finland has been suspended after Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field.

Eriksen was taken off on a stretcher after needing medical attention for about 10 minutes.

He collapsed untouched near the end of the first half, and was immediately surrounded by medical personnel. His teammates then formed a shielding wall around him.

The ball went out of play for a Denmark throw-in down near the corner flag. Rushing to receive the ball from whoever was taking it, Christian Eriksen collapsed face first into the turf as the ball hit his knee.

Two nearby Finnish players, a Dane and referee Anthony Taylor immediately signalled for urgent medical assistance. Soon after that arrived, one of the Danish medical team was seen performing compressions on Eriksen’s chest as his teammates formed a ring around him and the staff treating him.

As of five minutes before this report, Eriksen was still receiving treatment on the pitch.

The Finland players stood by their bench and eventually walked off the field while Eriksen was still getting treatment, he was then carried off to a loud ovation.

Eriksen has been stabilized according to UEFA officials. UEFA also said that the Denmark and Finland teams have met with officials and a decision on the game will be made shortly. The match was suspended while Eriksen was receiving medical treatment on the pitch.

We now await official statement from UEFA concerning the match.
