Olumide Ogunwo, the founder and CEO of Afriprize, a gaming platform, has a story that reads like a thrilling video game itself.

In a statement, he recalled that although his origins were in Ode-Aye, his life narrative started in an abandoned garage in Okitipupa. He also mentioned that, even as a student, he was enthralled with technology, having managed a cyber cafe and entered the digital world at a young age.

He also claimed that he intended to travel after high school and that’s how he got up in Awka, Anambra, where he started taking game development and cybersecurity classes.

According to him; He made friends online and discovered ways to make money – trading digital currencies and creating content at 17, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit early on.

Formal education took a backseat as Ogunwo discovered opportunities on Craigslist. He connected landlords and tenants, earning commissions for his verification services. While his early earnings were spent freely, this venture ignited a spark within him, the spark of entrepreneurship.

Ogunwo also mentioned that he visited Senegal to investigate vulnerability detection and bounty hunting for businesses along side his best friend.

Tragically, his best friend died at a beach celebration.

After that, he went back to Nigeria, but he never lost his strength or ability to shine as he adapted to the unpredictability of life and managed to live in a variety of living situations.

What they’re saying

Olumide went to further to admit;

“Every obstacle turned into a springboard that brought me to Akure and a worthwhile project that matched my interests and skill set. Despite my financial ignorance, I accepted the task. Rather, I started a journey to learn about money management, demonstrating a readiness to develop and learn,”

“Every obstacle was an opportunity to grow and adjust.”

Bottom Line

Ogunwo’s fortitude served as the cornerstone for creativity as the concept that would reshape his career materialized, and all of the detours along the way presented chances for development rather than barriers to overcome.
