Khanyisile Mndayi, a 27-year-old South-African woman, remains in critical condition and in a coma after being viciously stabbed over 20 times by her boyfriend in front of their children on Sunday, May 26th. The violent incident happened at their residence in Berea, Johannesburg. According to a Facebook post by Gillian Mogale, Mndayi was attacked and repeatedly stabbed by her boyfriend, Bongani, after arriving home late from her shift.
“Mndayi came home late from her shift at Tempo. Upon her arrival at the Metropolitan flat in Berea, she was insulted, beaten, and stabbed multiple times in front of her kids by her boyfriend, BONGANI, known as Luuk De Jong on Facebook. She is now fighting for her life in hospital,” Mogale wrote.
On Monday, the non-profit organization Women For Change, which combats gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa, reported that the boyfriend locked the wounded Mndayi and her children inside the house before fleeing. He was then arrested during his attempts to inflict more harm.
“The boyfriend took his belongings, leaving Khanysile and the children behind. Neighbors alerted the police, and when the boyfriend came back, police arrested him. We pray for Khanysisile’s healing and recovery and call for justice for her and her children,” the statement added.
