The Military High Command has vowed to bring immense pressure on the proscribed Independent Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, over the killing of five soldiers at a checkpoint at Aba in Abia on Wednesday during the Biafra Day celebration.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, had been the one to make the promise via a statement on Friday in Abuja.
According to Buba, the military would be vicious in responding to the heinous act and would make sure to bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to guarantee their total defeat.
He then went on to reveal how the troops of Operation UDO KA deployed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Areas next to Aba metropolis in Abia were brutally attacked and killed by terrorists of IPOB/ESN.
Buba had described in detail, how the troops who were deployed to exact peace in the area and protect the citizens were mass mobbed by the terrorists.
He said that the terrorists who were in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and others from built-up areas surrounding the checkpoint had sprung a surprise attack on the checkpoint.
What This Means
The military promising vengeance over their fallen colleagues means trouble for both the residents and the individuals who committed the attack.
Trouble for the residents because they might be caught in the cross-fire from both groups, and trouble for the suspects as it might mean a full-blown conflict for both parties.
The military’s vow to retaliate signifies also signifies their resolute stance against such violent acts, sending a clear message to the general populace that such attacks will not be tolerated.
Additionally, the military must exercise caution to avoid harming innocent civilians while responding to the conflict with IPOB, as prioritizing the protection of civilians is one of their foremost duty to the country.
