The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG has allegedly suspended the Senior Pastor of the City of David, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, parish in Victoria Island, Lagos State.
According to reports, the suspension was in connection to the public outrage that trailed the extravagant birthday party of his wife, Siji Iluyomade.
This controversial party which occurred on February 18, 2024, had tongues wagging after her excessive 60th birthday which took place shortly after the demise of the former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe.
The outrage was particularly loud because the deceased had been a prominent member of the church.
One video clip from the birthday party which had gone viral had showed Flavour N’abania, a popular Nigerian singer, entertaining the celebrant with his hit songs.
This act had not gone down well with some netizens, as they had taken to their social media pages to query the presence of a secular singer at a party hosted by a revered Man of God.
However, things had come to a head on Monday, June 3 when the Governing Council of the church, suspended Pastor Iluyomade for three months after probing the case.
Sources from the church further revealed that Iluyomade had already been replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 of the church. He took office on Sunday.
The sources had also confirmed that the call for suspension had not come from Pastor Adeboye.
