Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The Central Bank of Nigeria has quelled the confusion going on in some social media circles regarding the revocation of some bank’ licences. According to the apex bank, there is currently no plan to revoke the licenses of Fidelity, Wema, Polaris and Unity Banks.

The acting Director of the Corporate Communications Department, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, had cleared the air on Monday, via in a statement.

This timely intervention had come after a notice circulated on social media earlier on Monday stating that the apex bank had revoked the boards of the three banks barely after revoking the license of Heritage Bank.

Mrs Ali had described the claim as false, with the reassurance to the the general public that their deposits were safe in their respective banks.

There is no doubt that panic had risen on the minds of most Nigerians whose money were deposited in those banks because of Heritage Bank’s licence revoke on June 3 by the CBN over its poor financial performance.

What They’re Saying

The Acting Director of the Corporate Communications Department was quoted to have said:

“Without prejudice to the ongoing recapitalization process, I want to restate that the Nigerian banking industry remains resilient.

“Key financial soundness indicators remain within current regulatory thresholds.”

“Customers are, therefore, encouraged to proceed with their transactions as usual, as the CBN is committed to ensuring the safety of the banking system.”
