EURO 2020: It’s going to Rome

60,000 fans graced the Wembley Stadium to witness Italy defeat England, 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw to lift the Euro 2020 trophy, for the first time since 1968.

The Euro 2020 final dubbed as the biggest game of the summer,  was full of flair and everything you wish to see in a football final.

The game started with England bursting forward in the 2nd minute, with Luke Shaw playing a short pass to Harry Kane before he sends the ball to Trippier for the right wing back to deliver a cross to Shaw, and the Manchester United left back made no mistake with a sublime volley into the back of the net.

Shaw’s goal is the fastest goal in European Championships final. Italy made a few runs into the England box, but the attempts either go over the bar or are blocked by English backline. Chiesa made a solo run down the right, and unleashes a shot which goes just wide of the near post.

The second half started with Italy trying to get back into the game, putting the England defense under pressure and it finally paid off as the Azzurri got back on level terms from a set-piece, brilliant save from Pickford to keep out Verratti header before it fell to Bonucci who fired the ball into the net.

The two teams couldn’t find the winner in regular time and it went to extra time after six minutes of stoppage. The game went on to penalties with three of England substitutes; Rashford, Sancho and Saka missing from the spot kick.

Pickford also saved two penalties from Belloti and Jorginho but it wasn’t enough for his team to be crowned the Champions of Euros.

This win means Italy has surpassed their own previous best record by going 34 games without a defeat. Their last defeat came in September 2018 against Portugal in a UEFA Nations League game. Since then, Roberto Mancini’s side have not lost a single match and are only four short of matching the all-time unbeaten record.

It’s going to Rome, and the Azzurri will surely enjoy the well deserved win for a long time.
