The United Kingdom chapter of the Labour Party has thrown its support behind Olumide Akpata, their candidate for the September 21 governorship election. Egbe Omorodion, the chairman of the UK Labour Party and a former governorship aspirant, made this announcement in a virtual meeting on Sunday.

Omorodion praised Akpata’s qualifications, highlighting his past role as the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, and took a jab at the other candidates’ credentials. He confidently stated, “As a former contestant, I am fully backing Akpata, and as the UK LP chairman, our members will support him in any way necessary.”

Omorodion also assured that the Labour Party is ready for the election, vowing to deploy party agents to all polling units to prevent rigging. “The LP will ensure no compromise in the collation and announcement of authentic results,” he declared.

He further dismissed the caretaker committee set up by the party’s national president, Julius Abure, calling it a non-starter. “Abure is struggling at the national level and should focus on his issues instead of meddling in Edo’s affairs,” Omorodion said.

In a brief appearance during the virtual meeting, Akpata thanked the UK Labour Party for their support and stressed the importance of collective effort in winning the election.
