The Edo State Government has cautioned against illegal gatherings by cult groups throughout the state under the guise of commemorating their anniversary on July 7. Chris Nehikhare, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, issued a statement on Saturday, highlighting that the government has alerted the police and other security forces to apprehend and bring to justice any group that flouts the state’s anti-cultism legislation.

Nehikhare emphasized the government’s proactive measures to combat cultism, urging youths to refrain from participating in any unauthorized gatherings on July 7, 2024, purportedly linked to the anniversary of any cult organization.

He disclosed that security agencies have provided credible information indicating that Aiye (Black Axe) plans to mark its anniversary on July 7, 2024, potentially leading to conflicts and attacks on rival cult groups before, during, and after the event.

The statement reiterated the state’s strict stance against cult activities, reminding cult members of existing laws that prohibit their operations. Additionally, Nehikhare called upon parents and guardians to advise their children against attending gatherings organized by cult groups.

He assured the public of heightened security measures, with police and other agencies poised to maintain law and order and protect lives and property throughout Edo State.
