The anticipated rise in traffic congestion on the Herbert Macaulay Way as a result of drainage restoration has prompted the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to create strategic strategies.

This was reaffirmed in a statement released on Thursday in Lagos by Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA. According to Bakare-Oki, traffic will flow via Herbert Macaulay Way from Jibowu to Agnes Junction.

Bakare-Oki linked the traffic plans to the Federal Ministry of Works’ temporary closure of Herbart Macaulay Way from Jibowu to Agnes junction in order to repair the drainage system. Drivers heading inward from Yaba Tech, Sabo en route Herbert Macaulay Way to Adekunle/Third Mainland Bridge would have other routes, according to Bakare-Oki.

Motorists can connect to Harvey Road and then to Agnes Junction by taking Muritala Mohammed Way from Fadeyi-Jibowu to Montgomery Road. From there, people can travel through Sabo and Alagomeji to the Third Mainland Bridge.

“Vehicles travelling from Fadeyi to Jibowu via Muritala Mohammed Way can connect with Herbert Macaulay in Alagomeji and proceed to Adekunle before connecting with the Third Mainland Bridge.

“Motorists coming from Mushin en-route to Empire heading to Obalende can follow the same route to connect to UNILAG or Obalende,” according to him.

Babare-Oki stated that LASTMA officers were strategically positioned at various choke spots to regulate traffic and respond to any incident or emergency.

He also stated that workers had been mobilised to deliver real-time traffic updates and emergency information through the agency’s social media accounts.

He stated that recovery vehicles had been strategically deployed to respond to any emergency in real time.

What they’re saying

“A strong partnership with other law enforcement and security authorities is in place to manage traffic and deal with unanticipated scenarios.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure, which is part of our efforts to ensure a serene and weather-resilient atmosphere in Lagos,” the mayor stated.

Bottom Line

LASTMA’s strategies include providing alternative routes for motorists, positioning officers at key points to regulate traffic, and utilizing social media for real-time updates.

Recovery vehicles and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies are also part of the plan to address any emergencies.

The LASTMA’s efforts aims to mitigate the impact of the temporary road closure and ensure smooth traffic flow during the construction period.
