The Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has announced a three-day mourning period, starting from July 13 to 15, 2024, in reaction to the tragic loss of lives and injuries sustained by the teachers and students of Saints Academy, Jos after the school building collapse.
On Friday, the state government confirmed 22 persons dead with 154 others injured in the collapse that took occurred on Friday morning.
Mutfwang had said that flags would be flown at half-mast to honour the victims of the school building collapse in Jos.
The governor made the announcement shortly after he visited the scene and hospitals where the injured were recuperating.
Mutfwang, who expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the devastating incident, had encouraged citizens to adhere strictly to building codes and ethics to prevent such tragedies from happening.
Mutfwang also acknowledged he first responders for their swift action and commended the many citizens, for their tremendous support and solidarity in the wake of this tragedy.
As of the time of this filing this report, 58 individuals are still hospitalized, while 74 have been treated and promptly discharged.
