Former President, Donald Trump chose Sen. JD Vance from Ohio as his running mate on Monday, in a decisive move that saw him picking a onetime critic turned ally.
39-year-old Vance had risen to national fame with the 2016 publication of his memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” After his election to the Senate in 2022, he became one of the staunchest champions of the former president’s “Make America Great Again” campaign.
He is however, largely unseasoned in national politics and is teaming up with Trump at an extraordinary moment in American history.
The attempted assassination of Trump at a rally on Saturday has shaken up the campaign for both he and President Biden, drawing new attention to the nation’s coarse political rhetoric and reinforcing the importance of those who are one heartbeat away from the presidency.
Vance who took to X (formerly Twitter) to suggest that President Joe Biden was to blame for the shooting incident had come under attack by political pundits.
At the time of filing this report, the law enforcement has yet to reveal the motivation for the shooting.
