On Tuesday, the federal government revealed the results of the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) to federal unity colleges and the Federal Government Academy (FGA Suleja).

However, due to their alleged involvement in exam irregularities, the authorities delayed the results for 52 candidates.

This represents a subset of the 66,931 applicants who took the test. Two of the applicants are from Lagos State, but the government claims that fifty of the candidates are from Rivers State.

The results were being investigated to determine the extent of the wrongdoing, but Minister of State for Education Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu indicated the results might be disclosed if the candidates are found not guilty during a press conference in Abuja.

The minister referred to the extent of malpractice in the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination as unprecedented.

What they’re saying

He stated, “The National Common Entrance Examination is for admission into Junior Secondary School One (JSS 1) of Federal Unity Colleges. ” It is a highly competitive examination administered every year to Nigerian youngsters both at home and abroad who wish to earn admission to our one hundred and fifteen (115) Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) located around the country. With their slogan “Pro Unitate”, these FUCs continue to foster our country’s unity.

“This year’s edition of the examination was written on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Togo.”

I’m delighted to provide the following significant highlights:

“The main highlights of the NCEE results are as follows:71,291 candidates enrolled for the 2024 NCEE, with 66,931 sitting for the exam and 4,360 missing.

“Out of the maximum possible score of 210, one candidate received the greatest score of 203, while 13 competitors had the lowest score of 1.

“This year, an unprecedented number of 52 candidates (2 candidates from Lagos State and 50 candidates from Rivers State) were involved in examination malpractice.

“According to him,The highlights of the Federal Government Academy examination are that 2,649 candidates registered for the examination;2,336 candidates sat for the examination while 313 candidates were absent.”

“The highest score is 180, while the lowest is 5,” he revealed.

The minister emphasised that the entrance standards for suitable candidates to federal unification colleges remain unchanged.

These, he stated, are: “60% merit, 30% state equality, and 10% exigency.” “Now that the results have been released, the Senior Secondary Education Department should ensure that all admission processes are concluded timely and in line with the above criteria.

Bottom Line

Noting that “federal unity colleges have become the first port of call for most parents in the country,” the minister assured all Nigerian parents that the government will continue to work hard to improve infrastructural development, feeding, and teacher quality to ensure effective teaching and learning in the colleges.
