The legal battle between the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) continues to unfold. Emefiele, who is facing multiple charges in four different courts, recently sought permission from the High Court to travel abroad for medical reasons.

Court Ruling

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has denied Emefiele’s application to travel to the United Kingdom for a follow-up medical checkup. In his ruling, Justice Muazu stated that Emefiele did not provide sufficient evidence to prove that the medical trip was essential and unavoidable.

Justice Muazu noted that although Emefiele claimed to have received an invitation to travel to the UK for medical attention, he failed to present a copy of this invitation to the court. Additionally, the judge pointed out that Emefiele did not demonstrate that his medical condition could not be treated within Nigeria.

Justice Muazu also highlighted that Emefiele is currently facing charges in three other courts, further complicating his request to leave the country.
