President Tinubu Arrives for AU Meeting in Accra

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, who also chairs the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, has arrived in Accra, Ghana, for the sixth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union (AU), which begins tomorrow. He was welcomed at Kotoka International Airport by Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Education, Prof. Kingsley Nyarko; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tugar; and Nigerian High Commission in Ghana’s Charge D’Affaires, Ambassador Dayo Adeoye, among other officials.

Key Agenda

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser toKey Agenda the President on Media and Publicity, announced on Friday that President Tinubu will address the meeting in his capacity as ECOWAS Chairman. He will discuss the status of regional integration across various sectors in Africa. The President will highlight achievements and challenges in West Africa since the previous meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, in July 2023.

President’s Presentation

President Tinubu will present the ‘2024 Report on the State of the Community,’ which will focus on peace, regional security, governance, economic integration, humanitarian and social development, energy, mines, and agriculture.

Agenda Items

Key items on the agenda include evaluating the AU’s early warning and conflict prevention mechanisms and promoting cooperation among regional economic communities to accelerate integration. The meeting will conclude with the adoption of a declaration themed ‘Educate and Skill Africa for the 21st Century
