The Federal Government has directed the Minister of Agriculture to release 740 trucks of palliative rice that will be delivered across the country, including FCT.

Many states have confirmed that they are yet to receive the palliative, which is expected to cushion the effects of economic challenges. This recent development has sparked different comments about the promise made by the federal government.

In a report made by Vanguard Newspaper, “Nigerians have told President Tinubu, ‘Palliatives are not the solution to food shortages.’ They urge the federal government to declare a state of emergency on food security and tackle the insecurity caused by herders.

“According to another report by Vanguard Newspaper ‘Only a few states have received the twenty trucks of rice.’”

According to reports, the federal government had announced plans to distribute palliative rice to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians. However, the failure of the trucks to arrive has raised questions about the government’s commitment to its promise.

Meanwhile, the federal government has been engaged in a war of words with supporters of Peter Obi over a planned nationwide protest.

The government has accused the group of attempting to destabilise the country, while the protesters claim they are exercising their constitutional right to freedom of assembly. The National Assembly recently held a panel session to discuss the planned protest that might escalate into a bloody demonstration similar to Kenya’s.
