IPOB sit at home order; Proof that our security apparatus has failed

Thankfully, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has suspended the sit-at-home protest it ordered in the South-East region, hinting it will hold only on days it’s detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, appears in court.

It’s only a shame we have to thank and be grateful to IPOB for reviewing the sit at home order, seeing headlines in different dailies from different groups already thanking them. Let me also say thank you IPOB for the review, since our security apparatus has failed in all ramifications to protect the citizenry.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

Well, if this is coming as a shock to you then you’ve not been following trends of events in the nation.

Totally pointless to say that this is a slap on the Nation’s security apparatus, we’ve gotten used to their lackadaisical attitude, especially our intelligence gathering outfit.

In a sovereign state, with a recognized democratic structure, it is a bad precedent for any group or association to declare a sit-at-home order and then follow it to the latter. The Federal Government needs not to be reminded that the South-East is still a part of the federation and the people need to be protected.

The government seems to be using the “sit down and look” approach, after all it’s the people of the region attacking themselves. But it’s important the Federal Government know that power vacuum will be filled, lack of authority in some quarters will set a terrible precedence.

Irrespective of the agitations, separatist call, no group or association not vested with the constitutional authority should be calling for a sit at home order.

One then wonders what is the Directorate of State Services (DSS) doing. Is it just about bamboozling their way into citizen’s homes unannounced and at odd hours?

That said, there seems to be a clear lack of intelligence gathering to address most of our security challenges.

There’s no point stating the biggest losers if this continues. There are better, legitimate and constitutional route to follow than subjecting your presumed followers under the guise and authority of the supreme leader to unprecedented hardship and loss of lives.
