Elon Musk’s daughter named Vivian Wilson went public to bash her father referring to him as a serial adulterer and a bad parent. Wilson, the 20 year old transgender from his first marriage, has expressed her opinions on Threads and referred to Musk as “stupid”, “desperate”, and “not a family man.” This was bound to create conflict between the two based on previous words that Musk had for Wilson.
Wilson repeatedly accused Musk of attempting to recast himself into a more virtuous ‘caring paternal father’ figure, which Wilson does not believe is sincere. She criticized his deceitfulness and efforts to change peoples’ perception of him. Wilson’s crude language is in reaction to Musk’s recent Twitter posts about his parenting, which most people found rather boastful.
She has come out in the past to criticize her father including his comments on trans people. Musk had referred to Wilson as “not a girl” and accused her of having the “woke mind virus.” This tension is best illustrated by Musk’s recent decision to relocate SpaceX and Tesla headquarters to Texas over new laws regulating the rights of trans students. Wilson stated that Musk is “cold, uncaring, and narcissistic”.
Wilson’s priorities include gender-affirming care, which Musk has claimed should not be pursued. This public family dispute is being being held at a time when the country is discussing transgender people’s rights and their treatment in healthcare. Republican state legislators have been introducing and advancing bills to ban gender-affirming care, which physicians and other experts have said are critical for the well-being and survival of trans people. According to the data provided by the Human Rights Campaign, there has been a spike in violence against the transgender population; 22 trans and gender-expansive folks were killed in the first eight months of 2024 alone.
