The Professional Footballers’ Association published a shortlist of six nominees for the 2023/24 Players’ Player of the Year award—the most renowned individual distinction in the Premier League voted upon by fellow players.
Manchester City dominated the list with three representatives. Also in contention is the winner from last time around, Erling Haaland, who bagged 27 goals in 31 Premier League outings. Having won the FWA Men’s Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season, Phil Foden is an odds-on favorite to complete his haul following a season where he turned in 19 goals and eight assists over 35 appearances. The third member of that City triumvirate, Rodri, was instrumental in their unbeaten Premier League record – City lost every game he missed.
Also in the running is Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard – who played club captain, scored eight, and made ten more. Cole Palmer impressed with 33 goal contributions in a breakout season following his move from City to Chelsea last August.
Rounding out the shortlist is Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa, who notched 19 times and added 13 assists to his name in the past campaign as Villa clinched a fourth-place finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.
The winners will be announced on August 20.
